Almost Famous

Sometimes having the same name as an actor can be fun.

The first time I really experienced this was in South Carolina where I stopped for gas on one of many trips between Vermont and Georgia. Upon handing my credit card to the attendant she said, "Thank you, Mr. Drury" then did a double take at the card and exclaimed, "And JAMES Drury, no less!"

Since then I've run into people who have immediately called me the "Virginian" or perhaps marveled at how remarkably well preserved I am since staring on TV back in the 1960s.

I just want to say for the record:  I'm not that old!

I've noticed I've gotten quite a few hits from people searching for "James Drury" on the various search engines. Try it and see:  You'll get a large number of references to James Drury the actor and only one for me.  I have a tremendous amount of hubris but even I can't pretend they're all looking for me.

This made me think that we as Christians should evoke a sense of mistaken identity in those around us. When people look at us they should see Jesus. Now I don't mean we should all become Jewish men and dress in robes or whatever. I mean our attitudes should be Christlike in every way so that people instantly recognize us as Christians. "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus" is one exhortation. "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" is another. It is only natural that Christians start acting like Christ.

Are we examples of Christ love and mercy? Is our faith so noticeable to those around us that they immediately look to us as examples and know they can find the Truth in our lives?

If someone is searching for God, will they find you?
