KJV Only-ism

I love my King James Bible. I prefer it over every other version. You could say I'm KJV only because it's the only version I now use and I recommend it to others. Yes, some are easier to read but this one is the best.

I consider it a point of faith. We need to trust our Bibles if we are to trust God. Maybe you disagree with me on the version but I hope you agree that without the Bible we cannot know about salvation, or Jesus, or any of that stuff. We must trust the Bible as the foundation of our faith.

That's not exactly correct. Jesus is the foundation of our faith. But how do we know about Jesus? By reading about Him in the Bible. The Bible, as God's written word, is important to our knowledge about God.

But we don't worship the Bible. Let's make sure we don't elevate a specific version above God.

That seems to be a problem with some Fundamentalists. They take the discussion over texts to a level with which I'm not exactly comfortable. When pressed (and not very hard), Fundamentalists will often make fun of other version (the New International Perversion, for example) and often consider them Satanic.  I have a copy of a book that spells all this out some where. Just now I can't find it. Oh well, it didn't impress me very much anyway.

I'm sure you've heard stories about Fundamentalists who believe that Jesus spoke Elizabethan English. Did you also know Jesus also had the ability to speak in red letters? I discounted these as myths until I actually met a person who claimed to only read "what was in red." I think that was mostly due to laziness than any actual theology, but then again...

I think discussions on Bible versions are healthy when done with reason and integrity. I like to think my reasons for sticking with the KJV are solid, but I am willing to entertain the thought that I could be mistaken. As a high school English teacher used to say "I could be wrong... But I'm not."

There are many valid reason for using the KJV. We ought not to give in to the temptation to yell and scream, or belittle other versions. Let's use our God-given brains to reason with people, not fight.
