I'm a SuperHero!

I'm really not sure where he got this but the Little Guy talks about being a "Super-Hero" all the time.  My arms get tired holding him over my head as he "flies" through the air. Sometimes he jumps over the last two (or three!) stairs on his way down or jumps off various pieces of furniture.

So he gave us a scare Friday night with his piercing cry as he landed from a jump off the coffee table. We were afraid he broke a bone in his foot the way he was carrying on and screaming. He calmed down but refused to put any weight on his left foot. As we were getting ready for bed he would try to stand and then laugh, saying "ow, my foot really hurts."

We were getting mixed signals, to say the least.

So we waited until Saturday morning to see what happened. He was still favoring that foot but he was walking. He limped all morning but by 10am he had recovered enough so as to attempt that jump off the coffee table again.

 - For those without small kids and think we are terribly negligent in watching him and keeping him from climbing, all I can say is it's like having a pet monkey. Just try to keep it from climbing. You can't watch them every minute of the day.

Three year-olds are smart enough to know not to do something if it hurts but not quite clever enough to lie to you very effectively about pain. They'll exaggerate ("OW. Mom, Sissy hit me with a stick." - it was a piece of yarn and he was upset with his sister anyway) but limping and refusing to walk just for sympathy doesn't enter their minds.

So we didn't go to the doctor as we were planning after all. I'm not sure what they could have done except confirmed if there was a hairline fracture or not.

I guess little boys that are made of rubber heal pretty quickly.
