It's just around the corner

It's January and I'm already working on Vacation Bible School. Since we now have a building our church has decided we need a VBS this summer. As of right now it looks like it will be the first full week of August.

I'm going to need all that time.

I've got to come up with 5 different puppet skits - one for each day - and plan songs, opening and closing times, and all that good stuff.

And either purchase or create puppets.

Why did I do this to myself?

Actually, I volunteered for these parts. I've been taking a break from writing anything for a while and this will be a good opportunity to start thinking again. I've got some basic ideas already and I'm starting to get them all working in my head. The puppet personalities are coming together, and I'm enjoying thinking up crazy things for them (and me) to say.

If you've never worked a VBS you're missing out!  It's a blast! About 10 years (really? that long??) ago I "hosted" for the first time. We did a "Creation" theme and Melissa played a nerdy scientist, complete with lab coat, huge glasses, and tons of books. I was "Jungle Jim" and dressed like Indiana Jones - complete with whip and Fedora (the hat, not the operating system). She would show up with a latest "discovery" and I would tell her how it fit into God's plan.

So now I'm working with puppets and trying to think up the skits from scratch. Back then we purchased the material. Today, we're coming up with our own theme and lessons.  That's why I choose skits and puppets: It's much easier then putting together lesson plans!
