I should have been a lawyer

So now I'm part of a class-action law suit simply because I have a Palm 650 Treo. I didn't ask for this, nor will I really get anything out of it. But the lawyers will earn millions.

This is just another form of a protection racket.  It used to be that thugs would go into a Mom and Pop store to shake down the owners. Now, it's lawyers threating to sue manufacturers. It's cheaper for the company to pay off the threat than to actually go to trial. Amazing.

The last class-action I was in was against Verizon Wireless because they claimed such-and-such but so-and-so didn't think that was true so they got a lawyer.  Then the class-action was filed and do you know what I got out of the whole deal?  The ability to purchase a $30 headset for free.  Wow!  And again, the lawyers got millions.

This time around I may get a $50 credit toward another Palm device.  Oh Joy!

Some people obviously think the trial lawyers are doing us a favor by protecting us from the evil Bush Administration... Excuse me, the evil corporations (they're the same thing, aren't they?) and their greedy CEOs.  Sometimes this is true. We've seen plenty of greed in the corporate board rooms and we will continue to until all men are as pure as angels. But how is forcing a company to put $500,000 into gift certificates and while paying $3,000,000 to the law firms actually protecting "the little guy" ??? (Actual numbers will most likely be different).

No, I don't have a solution for this. It just makes me sick.
