This Space for Rent

Whew! Has it been that long already?

I already knew, three times over, that having children changes your life. You need to know this before you have any children since your life will never be your own again, just like getting married in the first place.

What you also need to know is that when people tell you that having "one more" doesn't change things as much as having the first one, they lie.

Rachel is a joy. She is alert, social, and growing heavier by the minute - or so it seems when you hold her for long periods of time. She started out at just over ten pounds and continues to progress upwards on that scale. She's a big girl.

Yes, that's right. Ten pounds.  At home. No drugs.

You don't want to mess with Melissa.

The Little Guy was a little concerned at first. All the little babies he'd seen up to now eventually left when their parents went home. No naturally he said "Rachel can go home now" a few hours after she was born. It took a little convincing but a few days later he was incorporating her into his games.

"Come on, Superman [me]! We have to go upstairs and rescue Rachel!" I never knew what danger she was in but the "rescue" always involved giving her a kiss on the cheek. Later he would say "she's my best friend" and other such sayings. Now when she's on the floor he puts his face right up to hers and says "Hello, how you doing today?" in his bright and cheery voice. Rachel gives him a big grin and coos.

Also, Little Guy spent about two weeks in bed sleeping on my head. Who needs a cat? I figured he needed a little extra assurance for a while so I didn't complain. He always went to sleep in his own bed but sometime around midnight he'd end up on my head.

Really, I shouldn't complain too much. My schedule hasn't changed. I'm still only sleeping 4 or 5 hours each night, only now I'm changing diapers instead of doing what *I* want to do. That's OK, since I don't what to do that much anyway, and Rachel is settling down to waking up only once or twice.

So we're all still here, just a bit more occupied than before.
