Hallmark Greeting Cards
So I open up my email and there's another forwarded message about some company doing something. This time it's Hallmark and a new line of gay-marriage greeting cards.
My first instinct is to check snopes.com which has no entry what so ever on this topic. Next we go to Google and check out the latest news about Hallmark.
Sure enough, there are all the press releases and news articles telling all about it. Guess this is one is true after all.
So what?
I mean, what's the big deal? It's not like I buy tons of greeting cards anyway, and considering the selection that's already available with all sorts of various lewd comments and pictures, why should we be surprised by this?* Has Hallmark executives shown themselves to be conservative / Christian in the past and this is something completely different? Why are we taken off guard when non-Christians do un-Christian things?
What I do find interesting is the number of Hallmark stores that appear to be owned by Christians that refuse to carry these new cards. That's great and I don't think they should be forced to carry them.
Maybe it's because I'm cheap that this won't affect my spending habits. We purchase cards... never? We print them off the PC, or use ink stamps and other creative ways to make cards. I also sit and speculate on when the US Postal Service will raise the 1st class rate up to $1.00 - we've been inching closer every year so it can't be too far in the future.
*Not that I'm suggesting the new gay-marriage cards are lewd - I haven't seen them personally. I'm just pointing out that there's plenty of other types of card to be offended with if you so choose.
